Job Description

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo’s Product Management Team is a mission-driven team responsible for writing and enacting first-of-their-kind playbooks to bring fully autonomous driving technology to market. Our team develops simple solutions for complex problems by orchestrating cross-functional efforts to safely drive Waymo’s technology and the products it enables forward. We do this by understanding the customer, the business, and the technology. We are humble about the scope of our work, collaborative in our approach to problem-solving, and ambitious about our vision for the future.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to a Group Product Manager.

You will:

  • Develop roadmap and determine product requirements for driving behavior as Waymo expands to new cities, leveraging product insights and driving alignment across the company
  • Work on AI/ML and Planning technologies that enable Waymo’s Driver to scale in domestic and international markets, and across many hardware platforms
  • Work with other PMs and cross functional teams to identify the long term product focus areas to reach expansion goals, and steer technology and engineering efforts to address them
  • Thoroughly investigate data from real-world miles collected by our fleet, define requirements and guide the team to make the right trade-offs between capability, engineering complexity and other factors
  • Align and work cross-functionally with Product Managers, Operations, System Engineering, and other Waymo teams to bring to market products that save lives and transform transportation

You have:

  • A BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, similar technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • 4-8 years of relevant product management experience
  • The ability to gather and dissect large quantities of information, identify issues and trends and turn them into a thoughtful and compelling product vision and technical strategy/decisions
  • Proven ability to dig deep into a problem by utilizing technical tools and deep technical understanding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Experience setting own goals and effectively delivering to them in a very fast-changing environment as well as flourish in ambiguity

We prefer:

  • A master’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline, MBA, or equivalent experience in Robotics or Machine Learning
  • Prior product experience in AV, ML or Robotics
  • Prior experience in Management Consulting
  • Experience delivering products with new technology introduction
  • Passion and motivation by making the world a better place through technology, and wanting to be part of a team that makes this happen
