Job Description

Legal Operations Manager

You'll be the operational engine behind how Firecrawl's legal function actually runs. Reporting to the General Counsel, this is a build-from-scratch role: as we scale, someone has to stand up the systems, processes, and vendor relationships that let a lean legal team keep pace with a company growing this fast. That's you.

This is not primarily an administrative job. It's an operational build role for someone who is genuinely energized by designing systems from nothing, who can pick up a messy process and turn it into something repeatable that engineers, salespeople, and executives actually use. You'll work across commercial contracting, compliance, legal technology, product, and regulatory matters, not by practicing law, but by building the machinery that lets the lawyers move fast.

We care more about judgment, ability, and initiative than about the path you took to get here.

Salary Range: $140,000–$160,000 USD/year (Range shown is for US-based employees in San Francisco, CA. Compensation is adjusted fairly based on your location's cost of living.)

Equity Range: Competitive equity. Details shared during the process.

Location: San Francisco, CA (SF HQ) preferred, on-site five days a week. Open to remote within US time zones (UTC-5 to UTC-10) for the right candidate.

Job Type: Full-Time

Experience: Flexible. We're looking for demonstrated high achievement, exceptional organization, and high agency. Background matters less than what you've owned (see below*)

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States. We're not able to sponsor US visas right now, though that may change down the line.

About Firecrawl

Firecrawl is the easiest way to turn the web into data AI agents can use. One API call converts any URL into clean, LLM-ready markdown or structured data. It's the boring-hard problem everyone building with LLMs eventually hits, solved.

We hit 8 figures in ARR in year one and more than doubled it in year two. We have 180k+ GitHub stars, putting us in the top 50 repositories of all time, and developers, agents, and category-defining AI companies build on us every day. Growth like this is rare, and we're just getting started.

We're a small team punching far above our weight, working out of SF HQ and our new Toronto Hub. Everyone here owns a real piece of the product and company, end to end, and runs it themselves. No hiding behind process or headcount.

This is a place for people who want to work at the frontier: an AI company building the infrastructure other AI companies run on, not one bolting AI onto an existing product. We move fast, go deep, and are building the tools superintelligence will rely on to gather data from the web.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain the contract management, legal operations, and compliance systems the function runs on

  • Own the legal technology stack: CLM, e-billing, matter management. Pick the tools, run them, make them work

  • Build and run contract intake and routing, from first request to signature

  • Take on the creative and novel tasks that don't require a law degree but do require someone reliable to own them end to end

  • Support the legal team on research, regulatory monitoring, and special projects

  • Work with finance, sales, product, engineering, HR, and security to keep legal workflows moving

  • Manage outside counsel and legal vendor relationships, including billing, budgets, and engagement terms

  • Find the repetitive work and standardize, automate, or kill it with technology and AI

  • Track legal spend, contract volume, and turnaround time, and report out on where things actually stand

  • Take on more ownership over time, shaped by what you're good at and what you want to get good at

What We're Looking For

Strong candidates may come from legal operations, contracts, compliance, business operations, consulting, technology, professional services, or somewhere else entirely. What matters is that the work was complex and you were the one who owned the details.

  • You process a lot of AI output without shipping slop. You can run large volumes of AI-generated content through your own judgment and have what comes out the other side be right. This is the single most important thing on this list

  • You drive projects to done independently. Nobody is going to hand you a plan or check your work at every step

  • You've built or meaningfully improved a process, not just maintained one that was already there

  • You turn a vague ask into a working process. Undefined scope is the fun part, not the blocker

  • You're extraordinarily organized and you close loops without being chased

  • You're excellent in writing and out loud, with sales, finance, and leadership, not just with lawyers

  • You have good judgment and real discretion with confidential information

  • You master new tools fast. Every system here will be new to you and that shouldn't slow you down

  • You're intellectually curious about how legal, business, and technology decisions actually get made

  • You're an AI super user. Hard requirement, not a nice-to-have. You reach for AI to move faster by default

A law degree is not required, and this role isn't limited to people on any particular educational or professional track.

*A Note For Anyone Considering Law School

If you're seriously weighing law school, this job is an unusually good look before you commit. You'll work directly with experienced attorneys and see how they actually handle commercial negotiations, product questions, regulatory issues, corporate matters, and risk calls, at a company where all of it is happening at the frontier of AI.

That said, law school is neither expected nor preferred. Legal operations is a substantive career in its own right and it's growing fast. We'd be just as excited about someone who wants to build a long career in legal ops, contracts, compliance, or business operations. What we want is someone who wants to become excellent at this job, take real ownership, and grow with us.

What We're NOT Looking For

  • Someone who wants a fully built-out legal ops function to maintain rather than build

  • Someone who needs the requirements fully defined before they can start

  • Someone who treats AI output as finished work

  • Someone who optimizes for process over shipping

A Note On Pace

We operate at an absurd level of urgency because the window for what we're building won't stay open forever. If that excites you, keep reading. If it doesn't, no hard feelings, but this role probably isn't for you.

  • E-Bike transportation: A loaner electric bike to get you around the city, on us

Interview Process

Application Review: Send us your resume and a quick note on why this excites you. Show us a process or system you built or fixed, what was broken, and what you changed. We care about what you've done, not where you went to school.

Intro Chat (~25 min): A quick conversation to get to know each other before we go deep. What you've been working on, what drew you to Firecrawl, and what you're looking for. Time for your questions too.

Systems Chat (~45 min): We'll dig into a real problem from our world (standing up a contract intake process from nothing, or taking a manual workflow and automating it) and talk through how you'd approach it. Come ready to think out loud. We care how you reason, not whether you've used a particular tool.

Founder Chat (~25 min): Culture, pace, ownership, and how you like to work. Time for your questions too.

Paid Work Trial (~40 Hours): Work with the team on a real, scoped piece of the work, paid at a contractor rate. It's the truest signal for both sides. You see what building at Firecrawl actually feels like, and we see how you operate. Remote-friendly, and we'll flex around your current commitments.

Decision: We move fast after the trial.
