Job Description
Who We Are
Nuro believes self-driving vehicles are the most immediate and profound opportunity for AI to drive positive change in the physical world. Safer streets, more time for what matters, and easier access to the world around us, that’s why we’re building a universal autonomy platform: self-driving for all roads and all rides.
Founded in 2016, Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology for a wide range of vehicles, use cases, and markets. Powered by the Nuro Driver™, our universal autonomy platform enables the global mobility ecosystem to deploy autonomy at scale, from robotaxis and logistics fleets to personal vehicles.
With years of real-world deployment experience and a flexible, partner-led business model, Nuro is working toward a future where millions of autonomous vehicles powered by our technology help make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected.
Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, Softbank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and other leading investors.
About the Team
Nuro’s Finance team is small and deeply embedded in the business. We partner directly with engineering, operations, and G&A leaders on how capital gets allocated, and we support the company’s most consequential decisions, from partnership economics to long-range planning. As Nuro expands its commercial partnerships, we are building a dedicated Corporate FP&A function. This role will be the first hire and foundational owner of that function. You will have significant autonomy, broad visibility, and direct access to senior leadership.
About the Role
As Senior Manager, Corporate FP&A, you will establish and own Nuro’s company-wide financial planning and reporting infrastructure. You will lead the company-wide budget, headcount plan, monthly consolidated budget-versus-actuals, and rolling reforecast, which together guide how the executive team manages the business. You will also build the systems, data model, and governance processes that support those activities. Nuro’s planning process is spreadsheet-based today, so you are not inheriting a machine to maintain; you are building one. You will report to the Head of Finance and take your work directly to our CFO and co-CEOs.
About the Work
- Own the financial operating rhythm. You will build and run the annual budget and headcount plan end to end: timeline, data requirements, templates, executive alignment, approvals, and communication. From there you will own the monthly consolidated budget-versus-actuals and a rolling reforecast process.
- Own the headcount plan. You will own the company headcount plan of record and the incremental headcount approval process.
- Executive and board reporting. You will produce the financial reporting our executive team and board rely on, spanning working-team detail to board-level narrative. Your job is not to publish variances; it is to say what changed, why it changed, what it means, and what we should do about it.
- Accounting partnership and cash-to-GAAP fluency. You will work hand in hand with Accounting to connect FP&A to the close, the chart of accounts, and the ERP, so plan and actuals reconcile. You will build the ability to flex between accrual and cash views of key metrics, and help leadership understand which view is the right one for a given decision.
- Spend governance. You will design and run the processes that control how Nuro commits capital: incremental headcount approvals and budget adjustment proposals. You will make these processes rigorous enough to trust and fast enough to adapt to the pace of our business.
- Scenario modeling. Working closely with our Strategic Finance team, you will model the cash and accounting impacts of major partnerships, program launches, and financing events, and stress-test the plan against a range of outcomes.
- Financial systems and data. You will own FP&A systems and data. You will select and implement a planning platform and build the foundation underneath it, including hierarchies, cost drivers, and dimensionality, so that we can plan and report at speed.
- AI adoption. You will actively track and adopt AI tooling to make FP&A faster, more flexible, and more accurate. We expect this function to be a proving ground for what a modern, AI-native finance team looks like, and we will give you room to build it that way.
About You
- 7+ years of finance experience, including 3+ years in FP&A at a scaled technology company. You have personally owned a planning cycle and seen what works and doesn’t.
- You have operated at a public-company standard. You have worked inside a publicly traded technology company, or you have helped take a company through IPO readiness.
- GAAP fluency across all three financial statements. You understand cash-flow dynamics and can move confidently between cash and GAAP views of the business.
- Hands-on experience with planning systems. You’ve worked on a planning platform such as Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, or Oracle Hyperion, and understand how it integrates with an ERP. You have opinions about what to build in the tool and what to leave out of it.
- You can drive a company-wide process. You set timelines and objectives, obtain approvals, build buy-in across functions, communicate clearly, hold teams accountable, check the work, chase the follow-ups, and land the output.
- You see the big picture and the details. Variances tie, and you can tell leadership what in the P&L actually matters.
- One team. Our Finance team is lean and priorities move quickly. You will collaborate closely with the rest of Strategic Finance to get done whatever is most important, rather than defending a lane.
Bonus Points
- You’ve built or managed a high-performance FP&A team
- You’ve led the implementation of planning software
- You have been through an IPO, or been directly involved in IPO preparation
- Experience in AI, hardware, automotive, or other hard-tech businesses
- You have owned a company headcount plan end-to-end in partnership with a People or Talent organization
