What You'll Do:

Our Solutions Architecture team at Weights & Biases is a unique hybrid organization, combining the deep technical skills of Site Reliability Engineering with the consultative expertise of Solutions Architecture. We focus on ensuring customers can successfully deploy and operate W&B across cloud and on-prem environments while delivering a best-in-class experience that accelerates ML adoption at scale. The team is the last technical mile between a signed contract and a customer training models in production — and increasingly, the team that decides how fast that happens.

About the Role:

As Director, Solutions Architecture, you'll own the function across [REGION] — the team, the operating model, and the outcomes. You'll lead managers and senior individual contributors responsible for how W&B is deployed and operated in our largest and most complex accounts, across AWS, GCP, Azure, and on-prem and air-gapped environments. Your central problem is leverage: how technical delivery scales without headcount scaling linearly with revenue, through coverage design, automation, reference architectures, partner enablement, and the management layer you build beneath you. You'll be a peer to Sales, Field Engineering, Support, and Product leadership — accountable alongside them for adoption, retention, and expansion in region — and you'll carry the clearest signal we have on customer reality into roadmap and platform investment. Externally, you'll serve as executive technical sponsor for strategic accounts and the face of W&B engineering credibility in [REGION].

  • Own Solutions Architecture across [REGION]: strategy, operating model, headcount plan, capacity forecasting, and leveling
  • Build and develop the management layer — hire and coach managers and team leads rather than remaining the single escalation point
  • Define how deployments scale: reference architectures, automation and IaC standards, deployment SLAs, and quality bars across sub-regions
  • Operate as a senior cross-functional partner to Sales, Field Engineering, Support, and Product leadership, jointly accountable for regional adoption, retention, and expansion
  • Stand up leverage programs that reduce direct delivery load — customer and partner enablement, certification, self-service tooling, and documentation
  • Serve as executive technical sponsor for strategic accounts, including escalation ownership at the CTO and VP Engineering level
  • Translate aggregated field evidence into prioritized roadmap and platform investment recommendations with Product and Engineering leadership
  • Own the regional forecast for technical delivery capacity, including partner-led and services-led models where they apply

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years leading a customer-facing technical organization, including 2+ years managing managers or team leads
  • 12+ years total experience with a hands-on infrastructure, platform, SRE, or solutions engineering foundation
  • Demonstrated track record scaling a post-sales or field technical function through a step change in revenue, customer count, or geography — with the coverage, escalation, and SLA model to show for it
  • Technical depth sufficient to lead an architecture review: Kubernetes, Helm, containerization, networking, storage, and cloud-managed services
  • Production experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform, and with IaC standards adopted across a team
  • Proficiency across multiple cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) plus on-prem or self-managed deployment experience
  • Strong Linux/Unix command line experience
  • Familiarity with ML workflows, MLOps tooling, and how ML platforms are operated in production
  • Demonstrated experience owning a headcount plan and capacity model, including build-versus-partner delivery decisions
  • Demonstrated experience influencing product roadmap with structured, evidenced field input
  • Experience operating a distributed team across multiple countries and time zones

Preferred:

  • Deep proficiency in Kubernetes design patterns, including Operators and CRDs
  • Experience building enablement, certification, or partner-delivery programs that measurably reduced direct delivery load
  • Regulated, sovereign, or air-gapped deployment experience (government, financial services, healthcare, defense)
  • Experience with GPU infrastructure, large-scale distributed training, and MLOps platform operations
  • Experience in a developer-tools or infrastructure company selling to engineering and ML platform teams
  • SaaS, web service, or distributed systems operations experience at scale

Wondering if you're a good fit?

We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who can bring their own diversified experiences to our teams – even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. Here are a few qualities we've found compatible with our team. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk.

  • You love diving into infrastructure problems and solving them systematically — and you build the teams and systems that keep them solved
  • You're curious about how to scale complex ML systems in production environments
  • You're an expert in building and running containerized, distributed systems
  • You think about leverage first: what automation, documentation, or hire makes the next hundred deployments easier
  • You are comfortable being the technical voice in the room with a customer executive team, and the one who tells Product what they do not want to hear

Why Us?

We work hard, have fun, and move fast! We're in an exciting stage of hyper-growth that you will not want to miss. We're not afraid of a little chaos, and we're constantly learning.
